This seesaw is designed for children 3 - 8 years old. It is desirable to use pine for making seesaw slab. The axis of seesaw is supposed to be made of beech, birch or oak bar with dimensions 40*60 mm. and 240 mm. in length. Plane the slab according to dimensions, indicated on picture, especially the front side. Cover 280 mm. from both endings of slab and kerf the grooves in it`s sides (20 mm.) for joining handle stanchions. It is good to make stanchions of planks 22-24 mm in thickness. Plane and cut out the stanchions as it shown on the plan above. In the area of curvature, drill the 24 mm. opening for the handle.
Plane (or, if it is possible, turn on lathe) the handles of birch bar (180*24*24 mm.) The uprights of seesaw should be made of bars with dimensions 650*50*60 mm. Sharpen one end of the upright. Drill the opening for the axis in the other end.
Take the workpiece of axis and plane the semi-axes on it`s endings. To increase the solidity of axis, make the transition from rectangle to the axle conically. It is reasonable for improving the durability to put on duralumin or steel tubes on the endings of an axis.
Fasten the handles in the stanchions with wedges. The other parts may be joined together with nails. It is also great to use two bearings with internal diameter of 15-22 mm for axis-upright junction.
Install the seesaw only after it is fully assembled.
Drive in the uprights into the ground by turns (to prevent warp). Round the sharp parts a little and polish all parts with sandpaper.
You may paint the seesay with any colours you want. Use oil paints. Then cover the seesaw with two layers of lacquer.
